Rape Prevention Education
The Rape Prevention Education (RPE) program implements evidence-based sexual violence prevention programs to reduce sexual violence (SV) perpetration and victimization. The RPE program was created from the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) in 1994 to promote primary prevention efforts in sexual violence such as reducing risk factors and increasing protective factors. The program is funded through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Rape Prevention and Education program: Using the Best Available Evidence for Sexual Violence Prevention is a 5-year cooperative grant. Three evidence-based programs that the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) offers are Shifting Boundaries, Safe Bar, and Green Dot. The Tennessee Rape Prevention Education Program partners with agencies across the state to offer these programs to prevent sexual assault.
